Get Involved! January Edition
Volunteer Meeting
The first way for you to get involved is the most direct. We took a break from our volunteer meetings during the holiday season to give busy schedules a rest, but we will resume our monthly meetings this Saturday, January 28. ANYONE AND EVERYONE is welcome! You do not need to have volunteered with us before, or be willing to sacrifice all your free time to building this school, or even know us to come. We love to meet new people and talk about how to launch this school. We will meet from 10:30-12:30 at my house, 1837 E St. I promise to make coffee and/or tea, and my kids will be happy to have a ‘playdate’ (read: Mom and Dad have a meeting again but at least there are other kids coming). This month we will start planning our family education night and our big March fundraiser.
If you can’t attend the meeting in person but would like to be involved in our efforts, please contact me! I would be glad to meet with you and discuss how you might help.
Fundraisers
We’ve decided to take a break from small event fundraisers for a while and focus on one big fun event - a Trivia Night in March! In the meantime, we are happy to take straight donations if you want to support us - we still have a long way to go to reach our start-up goal of $20,000! If you are on our email list, be watching for our donation letter. And if you have contacts with companies that might be willing to sponsor us, please let me know!
Our Trivia Night this spring will include a silent auction. If you have a connection to a business in town that might be willing to donate something for our auction, we would love to hear from you. We will start taking donations for our silent auction immediately.
If you're interested in some Bluestem swag, don't forget that our CafePress store is up and running. You can get shirts, tote bags, mugs... whatever we could think of to slap our logo on. If you would like our logo on something else, again, let us know - we will happily oblige you!
We are also collecting ink and toner cartridges. It doesn’t seem like much, but we can get between 0.50-5.00 for each cartridge - and that can add up if we have a lot of you donate! Also, as soon as the IRS processes our 501(c)(3) application, we will start taking box tops for education and set up an Amazon Smile account. If you have an idea for other fundraisers we can do, please let us know!
Until next time,
Laura
